Free Weeklong Holiday to Those Affected by Rhodes Fires

The 'Rhodes Pass' Initiative Offers Free Holidays for Fire-Affected Travelers

The Greek Finance Ministry announced the launch of the “Rhodes Pass” which subsidizes seven-day holidays on Rhodes for those who were forced to flee the island during the destructive fires last summer.

Last August, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis offered on UK television to cover the cost of weeklong holidays for those who were affected by the fires. “For all those whose holiday was cut short as a result of wildfires, the Greek government in cooperation with local authorities will offer one week of free holidays on Rhodes, next spring, next fall, so that we make sure they come back to the island and enjoy its natural beauty,” Mitsotakis said.

Through the “Rhodes Pass” the finance ministry is allocating approximately 4 million euros to eligible parties. The aim of the pass, which is similar to the Evia Pass, is to ensure tourism flows to the island and to support the sector’s recovery after the devastating fires on Rhodes last summer while restoring the island’s reputation.

 Who should apply:

– individuals regardless of nationality who were on Rhodes in July and stayed in hotels that were evacuated during the fires

– the subsidy will cover the cost of a seven-day stay at any time in the following periods: March 15, 2024 – May 15, 2024 or October 1 – November 15, 2024.

The new climate resilience charge, to go into effect on January 1, 2024, will not be imposed on the stays.

Details of the program, including informing and authenticating potential beneficiaries, the application procedure and selection process, cooperating businesses, and the creation of a special app to facilitate travel, will be announced shortly.
