Rhodes Through a Unique Lens: Light, Shadow and Story

With a distinctive sense of aesthetics, photographer Nikos Paraponiaris captures Rhodes in a way that feels both timeless and deeply emotional. Through his lens, light and darkness coexist, creating scenes that seem to whisper stories from another era.

As he notes on his profile, “Light in the Dark · Violin Sky”, his work is guided by atmosphere rather than mere documentation. In these two photographs from the Medieval City of Rhodes, we are taken on a quiet visual journey: the first along the famous Street of the Knights, and the second from inside the historic d’Amboise Gate.

The moon, suspended above the stone arches and cobbled streets, becomes a silent narrator — illuminating the past and inviting the viewer to imagine the countless lives and moments that once passed through these spaces.
